We were so excited about this we just had to share…
Yep, it’s a bench. Yep, it’s a rain barrel.
It even catches the rain that falls on its surface while collecting roof runoff, too. Unlike many previous designs, the fittings are hidden so only the tubes (for filling and overflow) show.
The hidden partition is large enough to mount a small pump and retracting hose reel, or some garden tools… or bird seed… Ok, sorry, don’t mean to toot our own horn so much. The next step is to make it affordable as a complete kit or a DIY project (that is what we prefer, that you get the cedar locally, but we understand if you don’t want to do the cutting). (**Update: we are currently looking for talented woodworkers or DIYers to provide this local service to customers, consistent with our commitment to reduce shipping and buy local. Till then, however, we can provide this service.) As of this post, it looks like the full bench, ready to assemble, will be listed for $295, and the DIY kit with detailed instructions will be $95 (add about $100 worth of cedar and you will save about $100 by fetching the lumber and building this yourself)… Simple. One, because we are do-it-yourselfers. We like to save money when we can and think you might, too. Two, we believe that if we can help reduce the energy burned on shipping individual rainwater storage containers (most of which are very large) all over the country, we won’t be contradicting the environmental benefit with that cost… stomping a big carbon footprint right where your water footprint used to be. Three, we are free to design and offer many more possibilities and help with integrating rainwater into specific designs, with almost any architecture. So as the tip of this week indicates, we will have the plans and DIY kit for this new cedar bench design available soon. If you want a pre-made ready to assemble bench, please fill out the contact request and indicate ‘cedar rainbench order’ to avoid any backorders in case we are just swamped with orders once online. No credit card needed, just so we can set yours aside!Talk about multi-use. The only thing this bench doesn’t do is take out your recycling.
Why do we give away our profits and encourage the DIYer to do this?
**UPDATE** here you go, order away! [wp_eStore_add_to_cart id=6]
Cedar Rainbench Order
I would like a pre-assembled bench.
Will it still work with a rain gutter downspout?
Thank you,
Cam
Yep, the Cedar Rainbench works just like the standard Rainbench designs, fills from the bottom from a downspout diverter (and the top via a drain from the cap) — and using your downspout is the best way to fill most above ground rainwater storage tanks. It is a massive catchment area, all set up and ready to use.

I am attempting to contact you to purchase the rain bench liners but the comment form is unusable. I am getting repeated errors from that “CAPTCHA ” code no mater how many times it is attempted.
I have a few questions before I place my order.
